Laser Treatment for Vascular Lesions and Periorbital Wrinkles
DCW uses the Vbeam pulsed dye laser to treat problems such as broken capillaries
on the face, rosacea, and signs of aging around the eyes. Long lasting
results for the removal of vascular lesions can be seen in one to three
treatments. For the treatment of aging skin, depending on the desired
result, optimal results are seen after several treatments, as the increased
collagen production is not immediate and best results are seen a few months
after the last treatment.
The pulsed dye laser works by delivering an intense but gentle burst of yellow light to the skin, which is specifically absorbed by the blood vessels in the dermis. For red spots, these blood vessels are coagulated and then reabsorbed by the body during the natural healing process. For treatment of aging skin the underlying collagen is stimulated which can help reduce the appearance of signs of skin aging around the eyes. The entire procedure takes a matter of minutes. Although a spray of cooling mist is delivered prior to each laser pulse, some patients may feel a slight discomfort described as "like the snapping of a rubber band" on the skin. If requested, a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment. Side effects may include purpura (a laser bruise), redness, and swelling in the treated area, although they are transient and, depending on the intensity of the treatment, usually do not last more than a few days.
