JULIE L. CANTATORE-FRANCIS, M.D.
Julie L. Cantatore-Francis, MD is a Board Certified Dermatologist who specializes in pediatric dermatology. Dr. Cantatore graduated
magna cum laude from Williams College, where she received highest departmental honors in biology. She received her medical degree from Stony Brook University where she was elected to
Alpha Omega Alpha (the national medical honors society) and the National Dean’s List. Dr. Cantatore received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award for her contributions to the hospital and the community-at-large, as well as the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation given to the top female graduate. She completed her internship in Pediatrics at North Shore-Long Island Jewish/Schneider Children’s Hospital and her dermatology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident and was nominated for the Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Competence Award, an institution-wide honor. Dr. Cantatore completed a Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship at NYU, one of only 17 accredited Pediatric Dermatology fellowships in the country, and completed her Pediatric Board Certification in October of 2008.
Dr. Cantatore is currently a faculty member at King's County Hospital and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where she teaches pediatric dermatology. She has published numerous articles in the field of dermatology and pediatric dermatology, including recent publications in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology and Pediatric Dermatology. She has also presented at nationwide conferences such as the American Academy of Dermatology and the Society for Pediatric Dermatology. Although Dr. Cantatore has a unique specialty in pediatric dermatology, her practice includes all aspects of general and cosmetic dermatology.
In addition to her practice and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Cantatore is an active fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and member of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology and the Women’s Dermatologic Society. She has long been an integral part of the AAD-sponsored Camp Discovery, a summer camp for children with chronic skin diseases, where she has served as a counselor, medical staff member, governing committee member and medical director. Recently, Dr. Cantatore was appointed as a Voting Member of the FDA’s General and Plastic Surgery Devices Panel, which is responsible for such areas as wound healing devices, esthetic injectable wrinkle fillers and cosmetic implants.
